Reception at Honorary Consulate

At the end of this beautiful trip with my motorcycle through Africa I was pleasently surprised by warm reception at the Honorary Consulate of Slovenia, located in Durbanville, Cape town, South Africa. I took a flight back home to Slovenia on April 24th 2012. I will miss Africa. Saudades.

Farewell to Cape Town

Motorbike trip from Mombasa to Cape Town is nearly finished. All together, there were around 21.000 km done in Africa, including two previous trips in Kenya and Tanzania. With one motorbike and one chain, it was a beautiful and unique experience. Thanks to everybody who supported me on this trip and who enjoyed some of the photos and stories.

Irvin Joseph, jobless

I saw Joseph siting outside of market in Bellville, a town 30 km out of Cape Town. I asked him if he is maybe hungry. He confirmed. I gave him my sandwich and Coca cola as I was not so hungry.

Joseph (52) was born 1960. He is jobless. He lost his job 16 years ago. He has two grown up sons (18, 22) and one daughter (26). Each of them tries to survive in their own way, the youngest is studying with the help of government.

Two Oceans Marathon 2012

Being part of 16.000's head crowd at Two Oceans Half Marathon is amazing experience. I finished it wet and frozen but happy. Wet because of heavy rain for the last 11 km, frozen because of early morning temperatures, happy because I was there.

South Africa's Grandest Gatherings

On the day of my arrival to Cape Town (March 28th) I was pleasantly surprised by the free community music concert within Cape Town Jazz Festival opening. The concert was held at Green Market Square in the city center. Among live performers I noticed Allen Stone, HHP, Dave Koz, Patti Austin. A very nice evening, thank you CTJF.
Two days later Cape Town Jazz Festival 2012 officially opened its doors at Cape Town International Convention Centre. There were around forty musicians / bands performing top quality jazz, pop, soul and african music on six different stages for two days in a row. Everyday from around 7pm up till 1am. Organizers did a hard and very good job. They also prepared a nice media corner for press. The festival is truly one of the most beautiful music festivals in the world. And also Africa's Grandest Gathering as they say. It's all about Jazz. I hope for the best also in 2013.
The day after Cape Town Jazz Festival 2012 closed its doors, it was the time to see the finish of one of the toughest mountain bike races in the world. It is called Cape Epic. There were around 1200 racers which cycled around 800 very tough kilometers in 8 days. After the race was finished there was a free concert held at 2pm. The band was nobody else but amazing Freshlyground and their sound was again very fresh and grounded. Thank you FG and organizers for a beautiful concert.
